Rug Dusting

Rugs are dirtier than you think. Did you know an 8 X 10 wool area rug can hold approximately 75lbs of “dust” before appearing dirty? We get it out.

Dust being removed from the back of an Oriental rug

This “dust” is unhealthy for the life of your treasured Oriental, wool or silk area rug and creates the perfect conditions for allergens, dust mites, bed bugs and bacteria. It is also abrasive to the fibers and can lead to traffic lanes, degradation of face fibers and fringe and an overall “ugliness” in appearance.

What is rug dust?

The “dust” removed by rug dusting can include a mixture of many things, most commonly:

  • Allergens
  • Dirt/Soil/Sand
  • Dead Skin Cells
  • Worn Rug Fibers
  • Food Particles
  • Pet Dander
  • Moth and Carpet Beetle Larvae

Allergens such as pollen embed themselves deep in your rug and are released with every step you and your family take. If you have pets, your rugs are a giant magnet for pet dander, fleas and mites that can irritate the allergies of friends and family.

Why dust a rug?

Vacuuming just doesn’t cut it.

Vacuums work great on the loose weave of your carpet, but even the strongest vacuums are ineffective at removing soils deep in the tight weave of Oriental and other specialty area rugs. Frequent vacuuming is important, but every rug needs a good dusting and professional cleaning every 2 years to keep it not only looking clean, but actually being clean.

Soil and debris cause damage.

Each step on a rug full of dust can do irreparable damage to its core construction. Dirt and soils are very abrasive and break down the fibers from the inside, often causing fading from wear on the pile that is not even evident until after professional cleaning.

What’s the rug dusting process?

Years ago our grandmothers would hang their area rugs over a clothesline or fence and “beat the cooties, dust and dirt” out of them with a broom – and you’d be amazed what they got out of a freshly vacuumed rug. Fast forward to today, and technology lets us super charge the “dusting” process.

We begin with a thoroughly exhaustive vacuuming of both sides of the rug with a powerful commercial vacuum. Once both sides have been vacuumed in two directions, we place the rug face down on a grid and use a specialized Badger dusting machine that provides 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute, dislodging deep-set soil, sand, dander and other contaminants that rob your rug of its beauty and life expectancy.

We offer RugBadger rug dusting as a stand-alone service for clients who don’t need a full submersion cleaning just yet but want the dust and soils removed between professional cleanings. It won’t remove spots, stains or odors, but if you have guests arriving and no time for a full cleaning, it’s a great alternative.

Now you know how our dirty little secret can rid your area rug of its dirty little secret.

Professional rug dusting services offered throughout the cities of Naples, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers and Punta Gorda.
